Finds From Mega Clothing Swap 2012

It is the middle of the winter, and it is a perfect time to think of summer and to dream about warmth and flowers! Let me put you into a summery atmosphere of my self-photo shoot that I did last August (yes, all these pics are self-portraits of mine!). The shoot was about the clothes I found at the Mega Clothing Swap 2012.

The Mega Clothing Swap 2012 was organized by the SWAP Team, a non-profit organization promoting eco-friendly and socially conscious clothing consumption. I volunteer in the marketing and management committees. Every summer we make a big two day event in the heart of Montreal, and it attracts hundreds of people. Last year the SWAP Team made a partnership with several local second hand stores, and they donated some vintage garments. I got lucky to found a few of them despite of beign extremely busy during the event!

1970s Dress

This is a vintage dress from around 70s. It was made by Route One Petite Miss whose workers belonged to ILGWU, the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. The name of the Union is proudly mentioned on the dress’ label. The Union had been functioning in in the United States and Canada till 1995 when it was merged with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union.
I combined the dress with second hand shoes.

Second Hand Divided Dress

This dress is from Divided for H&M. It is not vintage, but I like its rustic look. I combined it with a straw hat and bag, both second hand.

Pleated 1980s Dress

This is also a vintage dress. It is made by Breli Originals Made In U.S.A. The workers of the company used to belong to the same ILGWU, to its US department. Originally the dress was knee long, but I got it shortened. At the Mega Swap 2012 the Team partnered with a sewing company that provided with the apparel adjustment services right at the event.
I wear the dress with my boyfriend’s belt with skulls.

Suede High Waisted Shorts

These green shorts are not vintage, but they are made of genuine suede! The garment has no labels, but it has a lining that makes it pleasant to wear.
The vintage cut is what I have fallen in love with!

Cannot wait to go to the next clothing swap! I am sure I will find something interesting again!

I will let you know when the next one is organized. So far, the 2012 one was the last one. The organization wanted to make a swap this year, but they had problems with funding… and now Aleece, the founder and CEO, has moved to San-Francisco, so we do not know whether she will be able to organized another swap.
