October DIY: Turn Your Pumpkins Into Home Made Candles

Finally I received the wax I bought online! Now I can make pumpkin candles! This is different from a regular pumpkin carved lantern. You do not need carving skills, and instead you will need some wax. Much easier to do! Personally I am a terrible carver 🙂

Supplies You Need For This DIY

  • wax
  • a few small decorative pumpkins
  • wicks – I got the prewaxed ones
  • a microwavable container
  • a few pegs
  • spoon and knife (not pictured)

For this DIY I used soy wax. It has a low melting temperature and easy to work with. It can be melted in a microwave which is much easier to do comparing to the traditional double boiler method.

Step By Step Instructions

Cut off the top of pumpkins.

Remove the middle with a spoon.

Insert the wicks inside the pumpkins and fix them with pegs.

Put some wax in a microwavable dish.

the quantity shown on the picture is enough to fill about two pumpkins.

Now heat the wax in a microwave until it gets liquid.

The time depends on how your microwave is powerful. In my case it took 4 min to make the wax liquid.

Now the wax is liquid. If you want to make a colored or scented candle, this is the time to add dyes or a scent.

Pour the wax into your pumpkins and wait a couple of hours to let the wax harden.

Remove the pegs and trim the wicks to 1/2” length.

Thank you! I like to use common object to do something uncommon with them 🙂 Pumpkins have interesting shape and color; however, it is a bit boring to see that they are used in the same way over and over again. So< I decided to do something different this time 🙂
