I lo-o-ove color blocking. For me, it is one of most creative and bold ways to build an outfit. As about.com perfectly explains, color blocking is “a method of wearing multiple solid colors in an outfit […] [by building it] around a palette of two or more colors, usually in bold and bright shades. The result is a simple yet very chic look. Prints and patterns are typically not used in colorblocking, as such designs would take away from the “blocked” visual. ” And this is exactly what I did with this outfit.
I chose two colors in bright shades, red and yellow. This combination is so energetic and inspiring… though it is not good for my diet 🙂 Why? Well, did you know what red and yellow make us hungry? They affect our brain in such a way that our appetite increases. Have you ever wondered why fast food restos have their logo in red and yellow? Read this brilliant article about The Ketchup And Mustard Theory where it is all explained. Until reading it, I never noticed the red-yellow pattern of fast food. So yes, this is a powerful combination of colors, and I love it!
Both the yellow clear raincoat and the red mohair waistcoat are from the trifted treasures I bragged about in one of the episodes on my vlog. To increase the color blocking effect, I added a dash of cold teal – my favourite creepers. To balance it all out, I chose a black hat and a nude shirt, which is a great neutral addition to any colorful outfit.
How To Get The Look
- Red mohair vest: thrifted, find similar on Ebay
- Yellow clear raincoat: thrifted – well it is hard to find a similar clear raincoat, there is one from ASOS seems to look like mine
- Nude micro-mesh blouse: American Apparel
- Red jeans: Guess, sold out, and Polyvore has some suggestions what to replace them with
- Teal creepers: T.U.K.
- Hat: H&M
- Rings: from everywhere around the world 🙂
Behind The Scene Of The Red And Yellow Outfit
The pictures were taken on my street in a spot next to my building. A yoga mood quietly covered me in the middle of the shooting, and I followed the flow. While wearing adrenaline clothing I felt zen… crazy fire outside, cool calmness inside. Haha :)))
The jeans are my favourite ones; however, looking at these pictures, I am realizing I should not wear them anymore… Recently I have lost quite a few pounds, and the jeans have become too big. It is a pity they have to go, cuz I liked them so much and it is hard to find a decent replacement. Guess makes great jeanswear, but they have stopped making it in colours. Oh well.
Sam was yet again the photoguy 🙂 After each photo session it feels like he improved a lot, but a month later he forgets e-e-everything I taught him… and each time I have to show him the basics once again. Oh well. It makes me think we need to organize photo shoots more often 🙂
